Britannia Hosts Knot Tying Seminar!
If you're a boater, especially a new boater, or if you wish you were, we have an offer for you! Steveston resident, 
maritime personality and nautical lore enthusiast, Matthew McBride, will share a bit of his knotical knowledge with a lucky few this month.
This two session course will be held at the Chinese Bunkhouse at Britannia Heritage Shipyard.
Fee is $15.00 per session. Take either or take both!
All necessary materials are included.
Note: This course is open to people 16 years and older. Attendees between the ages of 16 & 18 must bring a parent to sign a waiver.

Session 1:
1:15pm, March 27: A marine related knot tying training course, instructed by local expert Matthew McBride. This course has lots of practical value. You will learn how to tie some basic knots and variations, including
the bowline, reef knot, larks head, sheepshank and clove hitch.
You'll also learn how they are used, and how ropes and lines are
used in some very simple boating applications. Plus, you'll learn
how to make your very own monkey's fist, an absolute must for every
boater or dockhand. Then an half hour of practice and a tour of the dock for practical, hands-on experience.
Session 2
TBA: For this second installment you'll learn about splicing (creating an eye in a rope,) backsplicing, making quoits, and the whipping techniques required to save the rope-ends from unravelling. These are essential ropework skills for anyone handling ropes, especially boaters. (Note, if you don;t already know how to tie the basic knots listed above you should attend the first session. While we will take a few moments to review the basic knots where needed there won't be nearly enough time to learn them from scratch.) Once again, after an half hour of practice we will head down to the floats to learn pratical applications of the skills you have just acquired.
